MATAGORDA, TX, Jan. 17, 2019 – The Matagorda Mortgage Center of Gateway Mortgage Group, a full-service mortgage company licensed in 40 states and the District of Columbia, selected Matagorda United Methodist Church’s Food Bank and Matagorda Community Latch Key Program as their charities of choice this holiday season.

Gateway donated a combined $2,500 through the company’s annual Charity Challenge which supports those in need and displays the core purpose of strengthening families.

“It is a tough decision to pick only one nonprofit organization when there are so many helping families in need,” said Teri Treadway, location manager of Gateway’s Matagorda Mortgage Center. “Our community is small, so the donation will make a positive impact in many lives.”

The food bank donation will last nearly six months and provide free food for over 60 families.

The Latch Key Program is an after-school program for elementary school students. It provides a safe place for children to go while their parents are at work, while also receiving a meal and homework assistance.

“With the closest daycare nearly 20 miles away, our program is the only option for many local parents,” said Gayle Hahn, Latch Key Program volunteer. “We thank Gateway for helping provide the support we need to continue serving families.”

Gateway’s Charity Challenge rewards the highest-ranking Mortgage Centers in several key performance metrics by giving donations to nonprofits of their choice. This year, four Mortgage Centers received the honor: Ada, Oklahoma; Stillwater, Oklahoma; McPherson, Kansas; and Matagorda, Texas. The Mortgage Centers will donate a total of $30,000 to support multiple nonprofits, including homeless shelters, food pantries, organizations dedicated to ending poverty and after-school programs.
